Sharon grew up in Kansas and was a graduate of Haven High School in Haven, Kansas, being the Valedictorian of her graduating class. After high-school, she was united in marriage to Fred "JR" Twietmeyer on July 11, 1954, at Haven United Methodist Church until his passing. On April 26, 1997, she married John William "Bill" Perry at Ascension Lutheran Church in Wichita.

Sharon was a Charter Member of Ascension Lutheran Church and the church was a special part of her life. While there, she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Sanctuary Choir Member from the church's beginning, as the Choir Director for 20 years and in the Stephen Ministry Program as a Caregiver and then in Leadership.
Sharon also had a generous heart for her community. She volunteered with the Via Christi St. Francis Oncology Unit, giving her time and compassion to patients and families during difficult times. Her dedication to volunteer service was recognized in 1991 when she received the Volunteer of the Year Award, an honor that reflected her willingness to give of herself to others.
