Shirley M Hunt, 87, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024. She was born March 10, 1937, to parents Marion and Evelyn Miller in Wichita KS. Shirley graduated high school in 1955 and in the mid 1960 graduated from Wichita with a nursing degree. She had married Terry O'Gilvie and had three children with him before divorcing and getting married to Elmer Hunt. Shirley and Elmer had celebrated 35 years together before his death in 2004.
Shirley was a hard worker who helped provide for her family. She then moved on to a nurse in a doctor's office and was a nurse for a psych ward. After marrying Elmer she helped him manage over 100 properties all in the neighborhood of Plainview KS.
Shirley had a love for nature and her favorite hobbies were gardening, birdwatching, and traveling. She also spent time doing house renovations, antiquing, cooking, crafting, and most importantly spending time with her family. Her dedication for God led her to the Church of God in Wichita that helped to lead, and play a big role in her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, sister Mickey Breedlove, and her son Kelly O'Gilvie. Surviving Shirley are her kids Steven (Sorita) O'Gilvie, and Scott O'Gilvie, step-children John (Brandi) Hunt, Karen Brogan, Patty Bowers, Edith Loughmiller, and Neal Hunt, 20 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service for Shirley will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, at 10 AM at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary, 201 S. Hydraulic, Wichita Ave., KS 67211. Following the service will be a burial at Lakeview Cemetery, 12100 E. 13Th St N., Wichita, KS 67206.
