Sonia was very studious and adventurous, and her love of learning led to many opportunities. She completed her primary and secondary education at Iquique English College before attending Crandon College in Montevideo, Uruguay, where she received her Teaching Certificate. Upon returning home to Chile, Sonia implemented the first Kindergarten program, and designed the Kindergarten furniture, at Iquique English College. She also attended flying lessons, and joined a Flight Club, as a pact she made with her College roommates. Sonia became the first female pilot in her Flight Club, and proudly flew a Canvas Winged Naranja airplane. It was her love of aviation that brought her to the States: Sonia accepted a position at Maize Airport working as a translator. It was through this position that she met her husband, Don. After their marriage in Chile, Sonia returned to Wichita, Kansas to create their life together. Sonia continued her work as a translator at Cessna, before retiring from Boeing. Sonia highly valued her education and her faith, and took pride in her accomplishments, as well as the accomplishments of others. Her love of life and adventurous spirit were evident through retirement, as Sonia enjoyed regular visits with friends from church and the Kingman Senior Center, where she attended events with her husband, Don. Throughout her adult life, Sonia was a member of Waco Evangelical United Brethren Methodist Church, and most recently became a member of Cheney Baptist Church. Her dedication to her faith, and her God, directed her life's journey. Sonia was a dreamer full of many ideas, and her courageous spirit inspired those around her.
