Raised in Atlanta, Steve attended East Atlanta High School and The University of West Georgia before being drafted in 1968, ultimately serving as a fire directions officer in Vietnam, or a "Hardcharger", from 1969-1970. He married Nancy (Bozarth) Long in 1970 and worked in the insurance industry for more than 30 years.
Steve enjoyed golf, storytelling, reading historical fiction, his friendships, travel, good cigars, his Methodist faith, good food, and, most of all, his family.
He is mourned and survived by his wife of 51 years; his daughter, Robyn (Ben); son, Matthew (Nadine); grandchildren, Ebi, Sacou, Gabe, Evelyn and Caroline; his brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 16 at West Heights United Methodist Church, 745 N. Westlink Ave., Wichita, KS 67212 for a visitation at 1:00, a memorial service at 2:00, and a graveside service at Resthaven 11800 W. Kellogg, Wichita, KS 67209 at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund or The Lord's Diner would be appreciated.
