Sulema Garcia

A few of Sulema’s special dates include: the day her sunshine, Maurice made their relationship official on December 25, 2018, when her and Maurice got the keys to their own place on March 23, 2020, and the birth of their daughter, Juniper on January 31, 2020.

Sulema was a high school graduate from Southeast High School. She started working at Outback Steakhouse while in high school, then joined the crew at Wholefoods. Sulema was an active library attendee, as well as an active member in the art and vegan community. Sulema’s hobbies included: reading, drawing, painting, baking and photography. She enjoyed cooking, listening to music and watching horror movies. Above all, Sulema loved taking her daughter to the nature center, and spending time with all of her family and having game nights.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Eduarda Gandara-Devora; grandmother, Monica Hernandez-Garcia; grandfather, Martin Herrera-Blanco; and adoptive grandfather, Margarito Mijares-Villarreal.

Sulema is survived by her grandfather, Esteban Garcia Barreto; father, Gonzalo Garcia; mother, Irma Mijares; stepmom, Leah Salgado; husband, Damon Maurice Brown Jr; daughter, Juniper Rose Garcia-Brown; sisters, Sarah Garcia-Mijares, Perla Garcia and Iris Garcia; brothers, Steven Garcia and Samuel Alexander Garcia; mother-in-law, Carrie Spees; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and many friends.

A come and go visitation will be available from 4:00PM to 7:00PM, Friday, October 6th, 2023, with Funeral Service for Sulema being held 2:00PM, Saturday, October 7th, 2023, both at Lakeview Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery in the Garden of Everlasting Life, 12100 East 13th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
