

Susan Grace (Mitchell-Hudson) Phillips, 76, retired Boeing Secretary and former Juvenile Field Services Office Specialist, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Susan was born Susan Eileen Musgrave, September 13, 1948 at Booth Memorial Hospital for Unwed Mothers to Darlene Musgrave.
In 1953, Darlene married and gave birth to a son, Michael. Susan was given up for adoption by her mother, Darlene Musgrave-Leftwich in 1953. After a brief stay in the orphanage, she was adopted in 1953 by E. Hubert and Lillian Mitchell and renamed, Susan Grace Mitchell, where she then gained a new brother Tom, whom the Mitchell's had adopted at birth in 1947.
Susan attended Woodland Elementary, Will G. Price Elementary, Robinson Junior High School, Pleasant Valley Jr. High, then Wichita North High School. In 1965, she was assigned to legal guardian Anita Landreth of Haysville, where she then graduated from Campus High School in 1967. Susan married Frank Hudson in 1968; they subsequently divorced in 1981. Later, Susan was united in marriage to Gregory D. Phillips in 1983.
She is preceded in death by: her adoptive father, Hugh Mitchell; her step-mother, Cleta Mitchell; birth mother, Darlene Mathes; adoptive mother, Lillian VanHorn; along with a half sister, Roberta Keller.
She is survived by: her loving husband, Gregory D. Phillips; her step-son, Scott Phillips of Tampa, Florida; step-daughter, Christine Phillips of Seattle, Washington; half sisters, Katie McCluskey of Overland Park, Kansas, Darla McCullough of Springfield, Missouri; along with two half brothers, Michael Leftwich, Chanute, Kansas and Tom Mathes of Cape Coral, Florida.
Visitation & Viewing will be held from 9:30 AM ~ 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 4, 2025; Funeral Service will follow at 10:30 AM, both at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden of Acacia Lawn, Wichita.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with: Save The Kitties, 233 South Georgie, Derby, Kansas 67037, in respect to Susan's great love for cats.
