Teresita Javier Saghi

Tessie worked as a medical assistant before her retirement, but it was her family that mattered most to her. Alongside her husband, Eugene “Apu,” she blended her Filipino roots with his Hungarian heritage, creating traditions that celebrated both cultures and became a meaningful part of the life they built together.

You always knew when Tessie was in the room. She was quick to smile, and her big, joyful laugh could fill it. To know her was to know the sound of her laughter. Tessie was an extraordinary cook, but she didn’t just feed a crowd. She gathered one. She filled the table with favorites, including her famous egg rolls and heaps of pancit, and brought family and friends together around it. She also never met a garage sale she didn’t like.

She is survived by her six children, Eugene “Moka” (Kathy) Saghi, Victor (Loretta) Saghi, Maila (Michael) Levin, Monserrat “Monze” (Tom) Basham, Barbara (Lael) Nelson, and Paulo (Bobbie) Saghi. She is also survived by her fifteen grandchildren: Jeno (EJ) Saghi, Jake (Sydney) Saghi, Rachael Saghi, Jason (Diane) Saghi, Jennifer (Adam) Hayward, Andrea (Blake) Gohring, Brittany Saghi, Brandon Gilbert, Kaleb (Asly) Basham, Tanner (Mariah) Basham, Logan Basham, Jaden (Marek) Ortiz, Gillian Nelson, Juliana Saghi, and Ben Saghi; eight great-grandchildren, with two more lovingly awaited; and her siblings, Adelaida (Harold) Hostetter, Ignacio (Amelia) Javier, Milagros (Gary Marsh) Buchanan, Elizabeth (Ted) Kondo, Evangeline Javier, Cecilia Javier, Mario Javier, and William Javier.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene “Apu” Saghi; her parents, Angel and Juliana Javier; and her siblings, Angelita Changcoco, Trinidad Javier, and Steve Javier.

As a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Tessie devoted herself to her family, creating memories and traditions that will endure for generations to come. Her love, her laughter, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 525 N. Broadway St., Wichita, KS 67214, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. A brief reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209.
