Troy Gee passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 9, 1947, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Virgil and Corrine (Simpson) Gee. Growing up in Ulysses, Kansas, he attended and graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1966.
Troy enlisted in the U.S. Army in September of 1966, serving in Vietnam from January to September of 1968, in the artillery division. He was honorably discharged in September of 1968.
On May 21, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Gettler, in Ulysses, Kansas.
After serving in Vietnam he attended Kansas State University.
Troy and Nancy moved back to Ulysses in late 1970. That is where they started their family and eventually purchased Happy Painters, an oil field/pipeline business. In 1990, he started his career with Grant County Recreation as a Sports Director, until his retirement in 2006. Shortly after retirement, Troy and Nancy made their way to Wichita to be closer to their kids and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tony Gee; and a sister, Rugene Goodnight.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nancy Gee, of the home; sons, Brandon and wife, Heather Gee, of Derby, Brian and wife, Kasey Gee, of Wichita; grandchildren, Baylee and husband, Landon Spillman, of Derby, Shea and husband, Jack Dugan, of Derby, Quentin and wife, Aubrey Gee, of Oklahoma City, OK, Braxton Bigley, Brooks Gee, and Brynlee Gee, of Wichita; great grandchildren, Carter Shea Spillman and Greyson Troy Spillman, of Derby.
Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Pathway Church, Goddard Campus, 18800 W. Kellogg Avenue, Goddard, Kansas. Per the family's request, casual dress is requested.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Kansas Honor Flight, 401 W. First Avenue, Hutchinson, Kansas 67501.
