Vera Colene Spencer

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Thomas and Bertha Jane (Tate) Ragain; her husband, Paul Spencer; one brother, Milburn Ragain (Veneitta); two sisters, Veta Clark (Amiel) and Verna Turner (Al); and one son-in-law, Jared Cook.

Vera was born in Huggins, Missouri, on August 16, 1935, and graduated from Mountain Grove High School. She married Paul on March 23, 1953, and they welcomed their three beloved children: Stephen, Stephennie, and Sonya. Her children were the center of her world, and she always put them before herself. Paul and Vera were married for 55 wonderful years before his passing in 2008. During the early years of their marriage, Vera worked as an editor for a print shop. She later went on to coordinate and work at the Bingo Hall, where she developed countless friendships over the years. An avid reader with a lifelong love of history, she was always eager to learn about the people and events that shaped the world and spent much of her free time traveling. Above all, however, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with family, reminiscing, and laughing together.

Vera is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Spencer (Lori); two daughters and one son-in-law, Stephennie Cook and Sonya Schnurr (Bob); eight grandchildren, Jason Cook (Krissy), Janelle Cook (Anthony), Joshua Cook, Andrew Schnurr, Alyssa Schnurr, Lauren Aaron (Donnie), Kayla Boyd, and Megan Chamberlain; seven great-grandchildren, Colden Cook (Macie), Collin Cook, Karis Cook, Jayden Woydziak, Emily Cook Henderson, Hayden Boney, and Sadie Chamberlain; two brothers, Merv Ragain (Elaine) and Marlin Ragain (Dora); and one sister, Venetta Koontz.

A Funeral Service will be held at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209, US, on July 24, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by a Committal Service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209, US, on July 24, 2026, at 11:00 am.
