Wanda E. Glassburner

October 27, 1919March 22, 2020

Wanda E. Glassburner, 100, passed away March 22, 2020. Wanda was born October 27, 1919, to John and Rose Elsie (Chaddock) Embt, in Grandfather Embt’s home, Attica, N.Y.

Wanda attended school in Attica through the end of 2nd year of high school. Family moved to Batavia, N.Y. where Wanda graduated in 1937. She came to Wichita, KS with her parents in January 1939. From there she attended Business Preparatory School and went to work in manufacturing engineering at Beech Aircraft in 1941.

Wanda married Leslie Ray Glassburner Jun 27, 1942. They had sons, John Leslie born October 28, 1946 and Robert Ray born May 24, 1956. As time went by, family expanded to grandchildren, John Leslie Glassburner Jr. and Leilani Huntsman Glassburner; 6 great-grandchildren.

At Grace Presbyterian Church she served as a teacher, Church School Superintendent, Interim Christian Education Director, Deaconess, Christian Education Committee Member and Elder. Also, a Parish Deacon and chaired out Preaching, Teaching, Reaching mission in February 1989.

For the community – served with her husband 8 years as Community Leaders and 2 years as Project Leader of the Achievers 4-H Club. Wanda was one of the founders of the Bonanza Home Economics Unit. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother.

Ray died November 23, 1968. Wanda returned to work at Beech Aircraft February 2, 1969 as Visiting Nurse. After 4 ½ years she was called to work in the Medical Department, retiring after 15 years of service, October 31, 1984.

Upon retirement, Wanda served as a Stephen Minister, on the Renewal and Vision Committees for the church. In 1989 she represented Grace Presbyterian Church on the organizing committee of East Wichita Shepherd’s Center. For 5 years she chaired the Adventures in Learning program and 2 terms of those years was a member of the Board of Directors. She was nominated by the Shepherd’s Center for the J.C. Penney Golden Rule for her volunteer work.

In addition, many of her hours were devoted to genealogical research of the Glassburner and Embt families.

Wanda moved to Presbyterian Manor in 1992. From then her life became volunteer work of visiting, transporting and raising flowers for the beautification of the Manor Court Yard and the enjoyment of her neighbors. During this time she served as President Elect and then President of the Resident’s Council. Wanda is currently in-state for viewing at Lakeview Funeral Home. Please call or check-in at the front desk should you decide to visit. Due to the current circumstances we can only allow a certain amount of visitors in the building at one time. We appreciate your understanding.

Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Grace Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Grace Presbyterian Church Youth Mission Fund Work trip, 5002 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67208.
