Wayne graduated from High school in Wakeeney, Kansas in 1947, with 4 years lettering in football. He played basketball and track.
In 1950 Wayne served for The United States Army for 2 years during the Korean War Era. After being honorably discharged, he went back to work for Continental Oil Company for one year and in 1953, he enrolled at Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana where he pursued a Geology degree.
On August 28, 1954 Wayne married the love of his life Mary Tracy and together they shared three daughters, Brenda Hays, Cathy Morgan and Joy Deatherage.
Throughout his life he enjoyed surveying land for oil and treasures. Wayne was a man of strong faith. He was member of Central Community Church for over 40 years, where he was a greeter and ushered members. Family was very important to him and he loved spending time with them, especially over a good meal.
He was preceded in death by his parents Byron and Leone Eaton, two brother Donis and Bud, wife Mary and daughter Brenda.
He leaves behind two daughters Cathy (Mike) Morgan, Joy (Paul) Deatherage; nine grandchildren, Andrea Piland, Jonathan Ray, Zachary Morgan, Andrew Morgan, Brandi Paton, Justin Deatherage, Brandon Deatherage, Sheldon Deatherage, Kendra Palmer; ten great-grandchildren and a host of friends and family and hope to see you all in heaven for a grand reunion.
A visitation for Wayne will be January 17, 2023 at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita. Funeral service will be at Central Community Church, 6100 W Maple St, Wichita, KS 67209 at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Interment will follow Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden of Good Shepherd.
