Wilbur (W.D.) Gordy

100, of Wichita, KS passed away October 7, 2018. Wilbur was born the son of Fred Curtis and Flossie Katherine Gordy on August 24, 1918 in Toronto, KS. Wilbur played sports in high school, including basketball, baseball, and football. He was an avid fisherman all of his life and an avid pool player for the last 20 years. Wilbur retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad after 39 years. He was fiercely independent and lived on his own until the age of 99 1/2. He married the love of his life, Lela, in 1942, after proposing to her on their third date. They were married for 62 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lela Gordy; brother, Robert Gordy; and sister, Katherine Campbell.

Wilbur is survived by his sons, Robert (Wanda) Gordy, and Don Gordy; daughter, Debra (David) Blake; grandchildren, Legion Gordy, Mark Gordy, Jenny Gillespie, Mindy Hernandez, Scott Sollenberger, and Brett Sollenberger; great-grandchildren, Whitney Lee, Jessica Vaile, Misty Xicum Ku, Lilah Sollenberger, Ethan Sollenberger, Finn Gordy, and Iris Gillespie; great-great-grandchildren, Christian Vaile, Connor Vaile, Kai Xicum, and Hazel Xicum.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 1:00pm with interment to follow, both at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Hwy 54, Wichita, KS 67209.
