William Gerald Mohr

Bill was a star athlete at Hartner high school playing baseball, basketball and football. He continued playing these sports at Northwestern State college in Alva, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1962. Bill served 3 years in the Airforce where his assignments had him traveling worldwide.

Bill married Irma Ruth Shaffer shortly after high school and they had 2 children. Irma passed away June20th, 1975. As a single parent, he never missed a game or event despite a demanding work responsibility. He credited help from many friends.

On December 18, 1976, Bill married Sherri Haug. He described Sherri and his greatest joy in life. He loved her deeply and fiercely until the end. A natural athlete and avid outdoorsman, he was happy hunting and fishing. He once joked that when he was gone his ashes should be scattered in the Barber County ponds because he had eaten so many fish from these ponds.

Bill had a 30-year career with KG&E starting as a meter reader and retired early as Director of Corporate Planning. He enjoyed a full life in retirement purchasing Hidden Springs Ranch, his favorite place on earth. He was generous with his time volunteering at the Arboretum, Meals on Wheels, and helping neighbors and friends whenever asked. Bill was also a die-hard Wichita State fan, a dedicated gardener with his wife Sherri, and a master storyteller who could captivate any room and had a quip for any situation.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, A.W and Kathryn Mohr; daughter, Christina McFerrin and sisters, Luella Koppitz and Virginia Garst. He leaves behind his wife Sherri Mohr, son Gary Mohr; 5 grandchildren: Samuel Mohr (wife Laura Mohr), Amanda Hughes, Colton McFerrin, Katie Patee (husband Dustin Patee), Darrel Mohr, and 3 great grandchildren: Malley Patee, Bristol Patee, and Wilker Patee.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 1 pm at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W Hwy 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209.
