So many memories that bring me joy! Joe was a special person, his smile, his laugh and his compassionate heart. I will love him always and remember my visits to Lake Charles, as a child. I spent so many wonderful days with Joe, Tootie, Aunt Grace, PaPa and Joe’s babies.

Joanne, Jennifer, Kimmie, Daphnie and Darrel love and  prayers are with you, as you travel this road. I love you and you come from the best family ever.

Dear JoAnne, Darryl, Jennifer, Kim, & Daphanie,

There is a saying, "People may not remember what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel."  Just the mention of Willie Joe's name or the thought of him fills me with such love, warmth, &  joy. These emotions fill my earliest & lasting memories of him.  He was a sort of enigma before I ever met him. You see I would hear the pure joy, love, & excitement in the voices of my parents & family members whenever they spoke of him. So when I visited Aunt Dora & Uncle Ernie for the summer, at the age of 4 or 5, & Willie Joe came over to visit me, I was enamored to meet the "Willie Joe" whom I had heard so many good things about. The smile that never left his face, the way he bent down to speak to me engaging me in conversation, his genuine interest in what I thought & liked, the bear hugs, &  the love that filled every room he entered,  were all so familiar to me. He reminded me of home!  To top it off he brought with him two of the most adorable cousins, Gwen & Jennifer, to be my playmates! He didn't disappoint the fantastical-like pictures that had been painted of him by family members.  Years later he would come back home to Lake Charles for brief visits & I would be eager to see him & to catch up. It's odd & amazing how love can transcend distance & time. The seeds of my love for him were planted at first through overheard conversations & that love grew as I encountered him even briefly from time to time over the years & as I encountered you who carry him in your hearts. Willie Joe was a rare jewel whose passing left me with a sense of immense loss countered by immense gratefulness. I thank the LORD for giving me our good family, for giving me our Willie Joe who brightened our spirits & revealed to us the goodness of God in man. Take heart we have the promise of eternal life. Willie Joe lives & we who believe in Christ will be reunited with him one day. For now, keep the faith.  Sending you much love always.

Words cannot express my profound sorry at the loss of Willie. He was such a kind and generous man and a hard worker in our church Holy Savior.  He and JoAnne are the perfect example of the Christian couple. May he rest in peace as his memory will always be a blessing.

Willie Joe a man of love! Willie Joe is my first cousin. I remember going to Berkeley, California for Thanksgiving and I met Willie Joe while I was walking downtown in San Francisco. Willie Joe said to me 'Tony'. I said to him 'Willie Joe'.  Willie Joe and myself thought that this was so remarkable. When I would talk with Willie Joe on the phone i would come away with a better insight about things of life. He was very smart and knowledgeable about our world. I will miss Willie Joe. I love him and who would not love a man like Willie Joe. Our cousin Arnold Batiste told me how great of an athlete Willie Joe was in many sports. Willie Joe played basketball at Sacred Heart high school and the coach at W.O.Boston high school wanted Willie Joe to leave Sacred Heart and to come play for him. To Willie Joe's wife thank you so much for being such a good and loving and caring wife to Willie Joe. To Willie  Joe's  wife, children, grandchildren, and family may Christ Jesus our Lord give you his strength, his rest, his mercy and his peace.
