Wilma was born in Mulvane, Kansas to Robert Earl Maple and Dora Maple (Drummond) on October 11, 1915. As a turn of the century baby, Wilma walked to a one room schoolhouse, celebrated Christmas decorating an evergreen branch her father brought home and cherishing a handmade baby doll made by a family friend.
Wilma supported her country by welding aircraft parts during WWII. She enjoyed her efforts so much, folks called her “Popeye” because her young arms were so muscular. In 1946, Wilma married the love of her life, Everette Crane, and was married 43 years until his death in 1989. She cherished her family, and hosted nieces and nephews for summertime visits, loved holiday gatherings, and cared for aging parents in her home for years.
Wilma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Everette;, 3 brothers; and one beloved sister. She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephew; a church family at Emporia Avenue Church of Christ, and a loving family of staff and friends at Homestead Health Care, in Wichita, KS.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be Friday 2:00 p.m., both at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary.
