Lula Rader, 92 of Maddock, ND, died Thursday, November 8th, 2012 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND. Funeral services were Monday, November 12, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Brethren Church in Maddock Burial will be in the Hartline Cemetery in Hartline, WA, Friday, November 16, 2012, 2:00 PM, with Pastor Mark Mewhinney officiating. The Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock, ND and the Strate Funeral Home of Wilbur, WA are in charge of the arrangements.
Lula Hathaway was born April 10, 1920 in Latah County, Idaho, the daughter of Harry and Catharine (Rutherford) Hathaway. She was raised in the Farmington, WA area, attended grade school there and graduated from the Deer Park, WA high school. Lula married Clarence Rader in 1937 and was later divorced. Lula attended business school and later the University of Washington in Seattle. She worked as a bookkeeper for several years and then was employed as a sorter by the US Postal Service beginning in 1965 in Kalamazoo, MI. Lula retired in 1985 from the Seattle Post Office and then moved back to her childhood area in Farmington, WA. She moved to Maddock, ND in 2006, living in the Parkview Apartments and in 2007, became a resident of the Maddock Memorial Home. Lula recently had been under the care of Hospice of Harvey and Hospice of Carrington.
Lula was an active member of the Latah Country Bible Church in Latah, WA. After she moved to Maddock, she faithfully attended the Zion Lutheran Brethren Church as she was able. She enjoyed traveling, poetry (reading & writing), gardening, canning, crocheting, quilting and playing pinochle. Lula also enjoyed playing rummy at the Memorial Home.
Grateful for having shared in her life are a daughter and son-in-law: Patricia & John Shaffer of Maddock, ND; a son and daughter-in-law: Jerry & Marie Rader of Alderwood Manor, WA; 4 grandchildren: Paul Pape, Susan Everett (Ed), Steven Rader (Karen) & Debbie (Mark) Sherwood; 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a son: Marion Rader; a sister: Ella Baker & infant sister: Nora ; brothers: Ray Hathaway & Clyde Hathaway and an infant brother: Ambrose.
