A Lifetime Wilbur resident, passed away August 10, 2017 in Wilbur, WA. Bob was born on May 4, 1924 in Wilbur to Elsworth and Lockey (Copenhaver) Jones. He grew up and attended school in Wilbur graduating in 1943. After graduation Bob joined the US Navy during WWII and served until being discharged in 1946. Bob married Marie Quirk on May 25, 1947 and the two raised their family in Wilbur. Bob worked various jobs in the Wilbur area until 1964 when the family moved to Pullman. Bob started his career with the WA Dept. of Transportation, retiring in 1980 and retuning to Wilbur. Bob was an original charter member of the Wilbur VFW Post 6268, a member of the Wilbur Grange and the Wilbur Sr. Citizens and he was also the caretaker for the Sherman Cemetery for many years. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved harvest, however his family and grandchildren were most important along with his many friends. Besides his 90th birthday celebration, the biggest highlight of his last few years was attending the Honor Flight for Veterans to Washington DC in May of 2015. Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years Marie at the home, three children Robert (Butch) and Kay Jones Jr., James S. Jones and Debbie Marie Jones along with 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Celia Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bill Jones, and two sisters Thelma Jones and Selma Martin. On September 23, 2017, there will be a celebration of Bob’s life at 1pm at the Wilbur Community Center.
