Charles David McIntire

Charles David "Dave" McIntire, 85, went to his heavenly home on September 6, 2026 after an 18 year battle with Alzheimer's in Oxford, FL. Dave was born on April 27, 1941, in Monmouth, Illinois, to his late parents Charles and Mildred McIntire. Dave attended Gladstone Grade school, Kewanee High School, where he was sophomore class president then student council president before graduating in the top 10 of his class. He graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois with a Masters Degree in Engineering and Business Administration. While at Bradley, he was crowned King of the Junior/Senior prom. Singer/actor Bobby Darin attended promoting his latest songs and he shook Dave's hand congratulating him. He loved sports and participated in several, excelling in track setting numerous track and field records. After graduating, he and Julie Zimmerman were married in 1964. While he was at Bradley, he was in the Air Force ROTC. Dave's active service was for four years, first at Hill Air Force Base in Utah where he received the Junior officer of the year award. Their first son Brett was born there, and their second son, Darren was born at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Dave finished his service with the rank of Captain.

Dave worked in the purchasing field for several companies including John Deere, Caterpillar Tractor Company, was the purchasing manager for Harley Davidson, and was the vice president for Waukesha Machine and Grinding before retiring as purchasing manager from Gardner Denver, manufacturer of industrial equipment in Quincy, Illinois.

Dave enjoyed music his entire life, with his dad teaching him to play the guitar at 10 years old. He formed a band while in High School, and another band in college, where he met Julie as his band was playing at a fraternity party. While their sons were in school, he taught sunday school, sang in the church choir, was a cub master, and little league coach. Years later, he loved playing his guitar and singing at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois. After retirement, he sang karaoke regularly at a popular restaurant/bar in The Villages.

Dave was dedicated to exercising and eating healthy. He had a great sense of humor, and he and Julie enjoyed entertaining friends in their home. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Julie to multiple destinations around the world, and riding his bike both short and long distances. Dave loved living life to the fullest and having fun with Brett and Darren.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers; Bob and Tom, and sisters; Mary and Nancy; nephew, Jeff.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Julie of 62 years of marriage; sons, Brett and wife Christine, Darren and wife Kristin; sister in laws, Mary and Suzan; 6 grandsons, Jencen and wife Hailey, Hayden and wife Mallory, Carson, Abbott, Hudson, and Palmer; sister, Cathy; nephews, Ryan and wife Loretta, Derek and wife Chris, Mark and wife Carrie, Tommy; nieces, Deeann and husband Mike, Kathy, Suzanne, Jill, Pam, Becky, Rachael; great nephews, Drake,

Brock and wife Sydney.

A visitation for Dave will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026 from 9:00 AM until the 9:30 AM service at Dignity Memorial Life Celebration Center, 7134 Powell Road Wildwood, FL. A celebration of life will follow the service at the funeral home. The 1:30 PM interment with military honors will be held at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell FL.

Dave's family greatly appreciates Vitas and Hearthstone of Wildwood for their excellent care.
