John Zacharias Alexander of Lady Lake Florida was peacefully called home to the Lord on March 30, 2024 at the Villages Hospital, surrounded with his loving family by his side after a short illness at the age of 95.
John was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 11, 1928, the third son of Greek Immigrants. He was fluent in both English and Greek and took great pride in his heritage. He was very active in the Greek Orthodox Church and community as a member of the Parish Counsel and AHEPA.
John was married to Mary Chabun in 1950 and were happily married for 41 years and had 3 children together.
After Mary’s passing, he fell in love again and married his current wife, Jutta on May 29, 1994. They have been happily married for 29 years.
John was a World War II Veteran. He joined the Coast Guard, and during this time he became a Radioman and was transferred to Johnson Island in the South Pacific. He also spent time at the communications station in Honolulu Hawaii.
After the Coast Guard, he shipped out with the Merchant Marines and served aboard a liberty ship as radio officer for 7 years. He traveled frequently to Europe including Spain, Greece, Turkey, Germany, and others.
Upon leaving the Merchant Marines, he held various technical jobs. Worked for Westinghouse as a TV repairman, and then as a warehouse worker in Brooklyn for Supreme Food Service. He was also a Ham Radio Operator and could translate Morse Code over 75 words per minute.
In 1964 he was offered a job on Eastern Long Island with ITT Communications as a radio operator using Morse Code for ship to shore communication. He was promoted through the years as a supervisor and then as a salesman for the company which took him to Greece frequently because he was bilingual. He retired from ITT Communications and was hired as a regional manager for COMSAT Communications.
John retired and moved to Florida with his wife where he spent his time golfing and became an active member of various clubs to include remote control aircraft, model sailing and model railroading and was active with the veteran community after having served during World War II as a US Coast Guard Radioman. Living his retired life to his fullest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zacharias and Katherine, his brothers Alex and Angelo, his first wife, Mary, and a son George. He leaves behind his wife Jutta, Son Zachary Alexander, Daughter Stellanie Callanan (Michael), and Stepson Marcel Enoch (Mileidy). 8 Grandchildren, Faith, Alyssa, Jessica, Georgette, Maria, Jay, Nathan, and Jayde. 6 Great Grandchildren; Blaine, Carter, Alexander, Axel, Rhys, and Kai.

A visitation for John will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Saint Mark Greek Orthodox Church, 9926 SE 36th Ave, Belleview, FL 34420. A funeral service will occur Friday, April 5, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 9926 SE 36th Ave, Belleview, FL 34420. A committal service will occur Friday, April 5, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 Southwest 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.
