Born on October 4, 1950, in Pontiac, Michigan, Lynda was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great‑grandmother, and aunt whose kindness, humor, and unwavering love shaped the lives of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Glenn Smith and Loretta Louise (Levitt) Smith, as well as her brothers, Kerry Vincent Smith and Dwayne Jack Smith.
Lynda is survived by her siblings: Gayle Ann and her husband Rex Gall; Daryn Walter Smith and his wife Lisa; Kyle Glenn Smith and his wife Miranda; and Kory Lynn Smith and his wife Cecilia; and her sisters-in-law Lorraine Vermette-Lefebvre Smith; Susan Kay (Fisher) Smith. Their lifelong bond and shared memories were a constant source of joy throughout her life, enhanced by her twenty cousins, and fourteen nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind her three children, who were the center of her world: Derrek James Carriveau, and his children Leonard and Gloria; Tara Marie Carriveau (Joe Owens), and her children Ashton Carriveau, Samantha Ross, Alyssa Owens, and Simon Owens; Erin Michelle Carriveau Strauss, and her children Grace, Sonya, and Olivia Strauss; bonus daughter Vikki Scholz.
Lynda was also a proud great‑grandmother, a role she cherished deeply. Her legacy continues through the generations of large extended family who will forever remember her gentle spirit, her strength, and the deep pride she carried for each of them.
She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren, and nothing brought her more joy than having her home filled with family, laughter, and stories. Lynda was an exceptional baker, known far and wide for her homemade deserts that were always made with care and offered with love. When it came to playing games, like Uno, she could be a ruthless competitor.
As an educator and storyteller, she had a gift for finding a teachable moment in anything. Whether in a classroom, at home, or during everyday conversations, she could turn the simplest experience into an opportunity to learn, grow, or reflect.
Lynda loved holidays and celebrated them with enthusiasm and creativity. Halloween and Christmas were her favorites.
Her presence will be profoundly missed, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Dignity Memorial Life Celebration Center, 7134 Powell Road, Wildwood, FL 34785, US, on July 24, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
