Thomas E. Schrecengost, age 88, of Summerfield, Florida passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. He was born in Connellsville, PA to the late Thomas Edmund and Eva Jean Schrecengost on November 23, 1934.
Tom served his country in the United States Army. Education was an important pillar in his life. He graduated in 1952 from Scottdale public schools and went on to receive his B.S. in 1956 from Slippery Rock State College, and his M.Ed. in 1966 from Indiana University of P.A. Tom completed graduate work at the University of West Virginia, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Texas. He was also a certified Master Gardner.
Tom was able to share his passion for education through teaching—he enriched many lives during his career at Washington Township school system, Frostburg State College, The Mercersburg Academy, and Manatee Community College.
Another important pillar in Tom’s life was his faith. For more than 36 years he cared and ministered for people, including at Lone Oak Mobile Home Park, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. He was the Lay Pastor of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in McConnellsburg, Pa. He was also a member of Live Oaks Community Church and the All Faith Bible Study and Charity Club at Spruce Creek Golf and Country Club.
Tom enjoyed traveling, gardening and many sports. He was a self-taught musician who used his many musical gifts to share his love for the Lord.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 beautiful years, Maity; children, Lynda Dawn Schrecengost and Thomas Warren Schrecengost and daughter-in-law Kay Schrecengost; sisters Jo Ann Guesman and Sonnie McDowell ; 7 nieces and nephews, as well as numerous other extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held Wednesday, November 30th at 10AM at Dignity Memorial Life Celebration Center, with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Live Oaks Community Church or a charity of your choice.
