It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Wayne LeRoi Dernoncourt, Jr, who peacefully departed this life on July 8, 2026 in Edinburgh, Scotland while on a tour of that country.
Wayne was born in Columbia,South Carolina on October 2,1954 to Wayne and Lee Dernoncourt. Thereafter, Wayne, his parents and sisters, Karen Van Petten (deceased) and Joan Dernoncourt moved to Virginia. Upon graduating from high school Wayne attended Virginia Tech where he obtained a B.S. Degree in mechanical engineering, and later earned an MEA degree from George Washington University.
In March 1977, Wayne began his federal service career with me the Department Of The Navy as a mechanical engineer. He was later reassigned as a computer engineer, given his software development expertise, and he retired from the Department Of The Navy after 29 years of service in 2018.
In 2008 Wayne and Valerie were married in Annapolis Maryland where they resided. While living in Annapolis Wayne enjoyed playing pickleball and sailing on the Chesapeake while a member of the Annapolis Naval Sailing Association.
Annapolis, Maryland was their home until 2021 when Wayne and Valerie relocated to The Villages, Florida where Wayne continued to play pickleball and travel in the US and abroad.
Wayne is survived by his wife Valerie Rocco, his sister Joan Dernoncourt, his brother-in-law, David Van Petten, his niece and nephew, Stephanie and JR Van Petten, and cousins Tom and David Palmieri.
It is evident from the sympathy cards received from Wayne‘s family and friends that he will be deeply missed and remembered by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. As one friend expressed. “Wayne was smart, funny and always willing to help. He was a good guy and cared about other people. He will be missed.”
