Bernard VanLoo (90) of Willard went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 7, 2018 at his home. He was born October 17, 1927 in Willard to the late Garrett and Trentje (Newmeyer) VanLoo. Mr. VanLoo worked at Fate Root Heath and Pioneer before going into the Army and serving in the Korea Conflict in the heavy artillery division. He was discharged in August 1953 as a Tech SGT, earning Korean Service Medal and 2 Bronze Stars. When he returned home he went to work at Midwest Industries just 5 months after they opened. He retired in 1990 after 37 years. Mr. VanLoo was an avid sports fan, following Willard, Ohio State, and the Cleveland Indians, Cavs, and Browns. He enjoyed lawn work and gardening, working on motorcycles and cars with his son and restoring his 1967 red Camaro convertible. Mr. VanLoo was a member of the Willard Christian Reformed Church where he had served as Decon.
Mr. VanLoo was married August 20, 1948 to Margaret (Heffelfinger) VanLoo whom preceded him in death in 2009. He is survived by a son-in-law: Edward Hunter of Toledo. He was preceded in death by his son David Van Loo in 1985 and daughter Debra Hunter in 2002, and his 5 brothers: Henry, William, Gerald, Raymond and John VanLoo.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Willard Christian Reformed Church, Celeryville with Pastor Terrence Visser officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Willard. Friends may call Wednesday 5-8 P.M. at the Lindsey Kocher Funeral Service, 323 Myrtle Ave, Willard, Ohio 44890. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Willard Christian Reformed Church.
