He was born in 1961 in Williamsburg, where he grew up. “Drew” was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hammack.
Drew is survived by his brother, Jeff and his partner Thia; Jeff’s children Rebecca and her fiancé JW and her children Skye, Paisley, Ian, and Ayton; Kimberly and her husband Eric and their children Morgan and Madelyn; Sarah and her husband Justin and their children Elliot and Isaac; and Amy; and their mother, Julie Hammack. Also surviving him is his brother Greg, and his wife Ginny and their children Robert and Jacob. Drew was fortunate to have many close friends including childhood friends Pete Mclean, Joe Vaught and his wife Teresa, and Rick Mclean. Drew maintained close relationships with his extended family in Texas and dozens of close friendships over the years from Virginia to Texas, and Florida to Alaska. He continued to visit them, often by car. He was considered family by those he visited whether a blood relation or not.
Drew truly enjoyed traveling by car. He planned to visit all 50 states and drove to see the many historical and natural destinations across the country. He drove to/through all 49 states including through Canada to Alaska. Drew was an extremely intelligent man with an equally impressive memory. Many will miss his visits and conversations with him. He put a great deal of effort into reaching out and helping others, and less effort into taking care of himself. He is loved and will be missed by everyone who he held dear.
