Anna Jean Goodrich Morris

She was born in her Aunt Cecil and Uncle Whitfield’s cottage at Windsor Shades in New Kent County. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Elgin C. Morris, Jr. (Pete); parents, Charles Edgar Goodrich and Edna Graves Goodrich; brother, Alferd Goodrich and sister-in-law, Margaret Hall Goodrich (Peggy).

She is survived by her son, Elgin C. Morris III; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Roudabush Morris; and grandchildren Michael Brennan Testa and Lauren Jean Morris.

Family and friends affectionately knew her as “Mama Jean”. Her thoughtful and feisty spirit brought cheer to so many. Through her many social gatherings and her ways around the kitchen, she made everyone who attended feel at home with a “Hey There”!

Jean moved from West Point in the late 1940’s and went to work after high school at the Cheatham Annex where she met Pete. After a courtship, they married in West Point at the Baptist Church with a reception at the Golf and Country Club.

Jean continued her government service at Camp Peary where she finished her 37-year career. She then spent 22 years working for Henderson, Inc. and Williamsburg Floral as an integral part of everyday operations, as well as bringing in favorite meals and treats for all to enjoy.

A memorial service to celebrate this wonderful woman will be held on June 7, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. A private graveside service will be held prior.
