Anne Wright Williams

Anne Wright Williams, age 85, went to her Heavenly Home on Monday, October 13, 2025. She was the only child of the late John Spencer and Teresa Taylor Wright of Charleston, SC and Upper Montclair, NJ. In 2015, she was preceded in death by Charles, her beloved husband of 50 years.

Anne was a native of Charleston, SC. She was educated at Ashley Hall School for Girls in Charleston; Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia; and Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Montclair.

She enjoyed a 45 year career as an executive assistant, especially the twenty years she served two Chairmen and CEOs of Sovran Financial Corporation and its predecessor institutions (1975-1991). She previously worked for W R Grace & Co., SC; WTAR Radio and Lawler Ballard Advertising in Norfolk; Crestar Bank in Williamsburg; and retired from the city of Hampton’s Economic Development Department in 2006. She served as a member of the George Mason University Mason Scholars Selection Committee for a number of years and chaired the Second Congressional District Committee for several years.

Anne and Charles moved to Williamsburg in 1985. When Charles became ill in 2009, she was his primary caregiver until his death in 2015.

She is survived by a stepson, Jay Williams.

A memorial service will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, on Tuesday, October 21 at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Dr. Robert Guffey, Jr. will preside. Anne will be inurned at the Freemason Street Baptist Church Columbarium with her husband.
