Barbara was born on May 11, 1941 to Charles and Rosemary Hub in Philadelphia, PA. She was raised in Philadelphia and attended Drexel University.
Shortly after graduating in 1963, she surprised everyone and joined the U.S. Air Force to “see the world.” With uncommon grit and determination, she successfully navigated Officer Candidate School and was stationed at Warner Robins AFB near Macon, GA. In the fall of 1964, she met and married fellow officer and true love of her life Vincent Grocki after a 3-month courtship.
Though she left military service after 3 years, she served behind the scenes, as so many military spouses do, during Vince’s 24-year Air Force career. Moving every few years, she managed to raise two boys, volunteer for countless organizations, and met many friends, which became like family. She and Vince retired in 1987 in York County, VA. During her time in York County, Barbara worked as an interior designer at Ethan Allen, and later as a museum guide at Jamestown. In 2005, she moved to Williamsburg, VA where she and Vince met wonderful friends, audited classes at W&M, traveled extensively, gardened, and spoiled her grandkids, Evalyn and Dylan.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58-years Vince, her cherished son, Alex, her parents, and countless friends and family she now joins to dance the night away. She is survived by her son, Steven, his wife, Nicole, and her precious grandkids, Evalyn and Dylan.
Services will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg on February 1 at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation at supportlafd.kindful.com. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com.
