Residing in Staunton, VA for most of her life, she and her husband Robert “Bob” moved to Williamsburg, VA in 2011 to be closer to their daughter and grandsons. She devoted 30 years of her life to caring for others as a nurse at Western State Hospital, which followed her time at King's Daughters Hospital, both in Staunton, VA. Nursing was more than a profession to her—it was a reflection of her kind and compassionate heart. Her gentle spirit and genuine concern for others touched the lives of countless people, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Above all else, her greatest love was her family. She shared 67 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, and cherished every moment with her daughter, her grandsons, her granddaughters-in-law, and her precious great-grandsons. She treasured every moment with them and filled their lives with kindness, encouragement and unwavering love. She also found great happiness in the beauty of flowers, whose vibrant colors and quiet grace reflected the warmth and gentleness she brought to the world.
She is survived by her daughter Melanie Showalter, grandsons Bryan (Karmen) Showalter, Justin (Cindy) Showalter, and great-grandsons Austin and Carter Showalter.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, along with her parents, 1 brother and 4 sisters.
A service will be held at 3:30 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, VA.
