Betsy was the quintessential career Army wife and volunteer. An exceptional hostess, her gatherings were always don’t-miss events.
She was devoted to helping young soldiers and their families, creating and leading programs such as teaching young spouses how to shop and cook on a limited budget. Later, she continued to help those around her while working for Kingsmill, in Williamsburg, VA. Many employees received their GEDs, voted for the first time, or invested for their future because of Betsy’s work.
A true entrepreneur, Betsy started and operated several businesses, always with close friends. Even last week she was suggesting opening a coffee shop.
Her greatest joy was her four grandchildren: Lindsey, Jack, Lauren and Katie. She loved them to the moon and back, and would tell their stories to anyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Col. Richard Coffman, U.S. Army (Ret.); daughter, Kelley Kulaga; and parents, Rosalia and Lowell Ross. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, U.S. MG Ross and Jacqui Coffman.
Betsy Ross Coffman lived an exceptional life as a loving wife and mother, and a good and true friend to many.
The family will receive visitors from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at the Williamsburg Inn, 136 Francis Street East, Williamsburg, VA. Burial will occur at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in the name of Betsy Ross Coffman to the Fisher House, 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850-5168.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com for the Coffman family.
