

Born and raised in West Virginia, Betty received her Bachelor's Degree in Science and at a later date completed her Master's Degree. After leaving her hometown, Betty moved to Buckroe Beach, Virginia where she met her husband, Percy E. Garrington, and began teaching Earth Science at George Wythe Junior High School. In 1964 Betty moved to Williamsburg, Virginia with her family and continued teaching in the local school system. She was known to be passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students until her retirement.
Betty was born 20 October 1927 in Beckley, West Virginia, to the late Ildon and Helen Rorrer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Percy Edward Garrington, and brother, Jack Rorrer. Betty is survived by her sister Mary Kissinger Lang; her daughter, Sandra Garrington; her two sons, Edward and wife Robin Garrington, John and wife Kendra Garrington; six grandchildren, Jennifer Parrish, Samantha Bradley, Danielle Garrington, David Garrington, Christopher Bradley, Amy Garrington; and four great grandchildren, Ashleigh Garrington, Sydney, Lindsay, and Gracie Parrish. In addition, Betty will be remembered and loved by her many nephews, nieces, and extended family.
Betty was an active member of the Jamestown Heritage Republican Women and the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. She was honored for her contributions of handmade afghans to the church bazaar and donation of books to the local library and high schools. Betty will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, to include her zeal for life and impeccable sense of style. Betty was a blessing to all she met.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 28th from 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, Virginia. The graveside service will be 2pm on Friday, September 29th at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg, Virginia.
