After a long battle with cancer, Beverly Courtney peacefully passed away on March 22, 2017 while holding the hands of her two children, Bryan Courtney and Anne Hinders. She had been under hospice and nursing care at the Consulate Health Care Center in Williamsburg since February, where she was visited nearly daily by her children, grandchildren, sister, and friends.
Beverly was only 68 years old. She was a dedicated and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her career was primarily in accounting and business administration for VDOT. She enjoyed antique shopping and bargain hunting at obscure thrift and small town antiquity shops. She found much pleasure in finding a valuable or just an interesting piece of jewelry, plate-ware, or collectible.
She loved spending time with her family and encouraging her children and grandchildren. She valiantly battled cancer for many years, setting an example of strength and perseverance during her journey which made a positive impact on all that knew her. Her caregivers and doctors described her as a sweet lady with a wonderful sense of humor and a cute giggle.
Her favorite Psalm in the Bible was the 23rd Psalm. It was read to her a few minutes before she left this earth to be with her Heavenly Father. She is now in the warmth of His presence, safe and free from pain or sorrow.
Beverly is survived by two children, four grandchildren, and a younger sister. Her son, Bryan J. Courtney resides in Williamsburg with wife, Melanie, daughter Madison, and twin boys Mason and Brandon. Her daughter, Anne Courtney Hinders also resides in Williamsburg with husband, Scott and daughter, Denai Courtney. Her sister, Selma Foster of Mechanicsville, has a daughter, Laura Foster Clancy, husband Josh, and daughters, Alex and Abbie that live in Stafford, VA.
Visitation for family and friends of Beverly and her family will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. A private graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 1pm at Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Drive, Sandston, VA 23150.
Due to her battle with breast cancer, the family would like to honor her memory with donations to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
