Carole Sue Boyd was born in Rockford, Illinois on September 1, 1934 to Floyd Patrick Sr. and Edith Palmer Patrick. She grew up in Rockford, earned her Bachelor’s degree, then attended and obtained her Christian Education Master's degree from McCormick Seminary in Chicago Illinois where she met William Fair Boyd. They married at 1st Presbyterian Church in Rockford, Illinois on May 28, 1960. They would have been married sixty-five years in May, 2025.
Carole was an educator, her servant's heart called her to become one. She was a third grade teacher for many years at both Mars Lower Elementary School and Sylvester Upper Elementary School in the Berrien Springs School District. Her former students remember her as a wonderful teacher from whom they learned so much. In their sixties, they speak highly of her with fondness. Bill and Carole moved to Hong Kong in Summer 1981 to teach at the Hong Kong International School originated by the Lutheran Missouri Synod. Carole taught middle school students who required academic support. After twelve years, Bill and Carole went stateside to Jacksonville, Florida. Carole tutored and was involved in Community Bible Study while Bill was a dean at The Bolles School. Her close friends and those who were in her Bible Study group remember her sharing wisdom, experience, hope and strength. She was a caring and compassionate friend who focused on Jesus above all.
In 2001, Bill and Carole relocated one last time to Williamsburg, Virginia. They both loved the area and were grateful God placed them here, their last earthly home. They were active members in Williamsburg Community Chapel. Carole, ever on fire for Christ, continued to minister in Agape and Community Bible Study. She made many friends of the heart who visited her regularly and cared for her after her beloved husband Bill passed January 30, 2024. Carole missed Bill so very much. She longed to go home to heaven to be with Jesus and her much missed husband.
She was born to be a nurturer and educator - showcasing that as she became a beloved grandma, she combined these qualities. We will miss our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, but we know that she has imprinted her legacy on those around her and that we carry that on in her honor.
Carole is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Boyd Nadzam (and her husband, William Nadzam) and Deborah Gainer (and her husband Joe Gainer); and four beloved grandchildren, Michael (and Katelynn, pregnant with Carole’s first great grandson), Sarah Boyd-Merritt, and William and Kate Gainer.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held for Carole at the Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Hwy, Williamsburg, VA 23185, on May 23 at 11am. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com.
