Carolyn “Lyn” Axberg Adamson passed peacefully from this life on July 22, 2014 in Williamsburg, VA. Born and raised in Flushing, Long Island, New York to Agnes and Arthur Axberg, she graduated from Bayside High School in Flushing and attended Centenary Junior College in Hackettstown, NJ. She worked as an executive secretary for National Dairy Products Corporation in New York City and was a volunteer nurse’s aide during World War II. On August 18, 1945 she married her high school sweetheart and began her career as a homemaker and mother. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Vice Admiral Robert E. Adamson, Jr. (“Rojo” to their friends), and their son, Commander Robert E. Adamson III. She is survived by her daughters, Gail A. Gordon (Roy) of Virginia Beach and Valerie A. Logwinuk (Greg) of Austin, TX, her daughter-in-law, Lynn Adamson of Coronado, CA; her seven grandchildren: Alexandra Adamson, LCDR Royal P. Gordon IV (Becky), Katherine Cuervo (Soleio), LT Robert Adamson Gordon (Anna), Gregory Logwinuk II, Christina Logwinuk, and Marshall Logwinuk; and great-grandsons: Silas Cuervo, Elam Cuervo, Royal P. Gordon V, Jack Gordon, and Andrew Gordon,.
Lyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loyal friend to many. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandsons were her supreme delight. She was so very proud of Bob’s accomplishments, successes, and service to his country despite their many long separations and 25 moves. She loved being a Navy wife and was active with Navy Wives Clubs throughout her husband’s 34 year career. They were enthusiastically involved with the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and the Class of 1944. She loved entertaining and was a gracious hostess and a gourmet cook and instilled her pride in and love of homemaking in both her daughters. Lyn was active in many churches through the years, most recently the Williamsburg Community Chapel.
Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service at Patriots Colony in Williamsburg at 10:30 AM Friday, July 25, in the Berkeley Community Room. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA is handling arrangements.
