

We mourn the loss of Carolyn Mansfield Winn Markie, born on April 2, 1941, in Norfolk, VA to Charles Edgar Winn and Carrie Elizabeth Mansfield. Carolyn was a proud alumni of Maury High School, Deep Creek High School (Lost Class of '59), and Brenau University, where she joined the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority.
She held significant roles in numerous organizations, including the Jr League of Norfolk/Va Beach and Daughters of the American Revolution. Carolyn’s passion for equine led her to the Tidewater Horse Show Association and organizing the final Boys Home Horse Show. She was also renowned for her leadership at the International Azalea Ball in Norfolk and Jazz Aspen Galas.
Carolyn had a successful career as a real estate agent in Norfolk, VA and Aspen, CO. She expressed her amazing creative talents through needlepoint designing, various forms of art, sewing, and interior decorating. Her keen interest in genealogy led her to complete and publish the "Marriages in Mathews County Virginia: 1861-1900."
She leaves behind her children: Virginia Corydon "Cory" Miller Dorathy, Elizabeth Carter Miller Johnson (David), and Meredith Winn Miller Lieb (Robert); as well as grandchildren, Aiden Andrews, Chelsea Andrews, Lily Dorathy, Sarah Lazo, Michael Johnson, Liza Johnson, Callahan Lieb, Margaret Lieb and Laura Lieb; and great-grandchildren, Daisy Cook and Declan Lazo.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her first husband William McCormack, second husband Monte Miller, and third husband Ronald Markie.
Carolyn was an extraordinary woman, full of life and love. Her glamour and beauty was carried with her wherever she traveled. She was a pillar of strength and generosity who touched the lives of many with her vivacious spirit. We celebrate her life and contributions. Her remarkable spirit will forever be treasured. May she rest in peace.
There will be a small gathering to pay respect and swap stories on Friday, July 14, 2023, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church located at 201 St. Paul’s Blvd in Norfolk VA in the chapel at 10:00 am.
