Cary was born on April 21, 1944, in Baltimore, MD, to Doris and Jack Peet. A lifelong Williamsburg resident, he was a graduate of Walsingham Academy and The College of William & Mary.
Cary spent four years in the Navy on the USS Richard L. Page where he worked with sonar and radar systems and traveled through Europe and the Caribbean. After the Navy, he was employed at Anvil Campground where he discovered a talent for fixing just about anything. He then spent several years at the Holiday Inn 1776 as a Facilities Manager before starting his own HVAC business. Cary remained self-employed as an HVAC contractor, where he worked closely with Berkley Property Management, until his retirement in 2020.
Cary often used his talents to fix things for those in need, many times at no charge. He never met a stranger and especially loved spending time with animals and children. He was a doting husband, father, grandfather, friend, and father-figure to many.
Cary is survived by his wife of 33 years, Nicki Peet; his children, Taylor Peet, Julie Peet, Molly Peet (Brendan), and Will Peet; stepchildren, Hagen Hicks (Jeremy) and Samantha Dorr (David); beloved grandchildren, Raleigh, Emilee, Jackson, Owen, and Levi; and his siblings, Jack Peet, Jr. (Jill), Regina Collins, and Carl Peet (Carol). He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Anne Peet.
Cary’s celebration of life will be held Sunday, January 12, 1:00 p.m. at Williamsburg Unitarian Universalists (3051 Ironbound Rd).
