While Laundry Manager at Eastern State Hospital, I became acquainted with Charlie and worked with him on numerous cases of alleged patient abuse. He was a pleasure to work with, and I found him to be a very intelligent individual, and a no nonsense straight-shooter.  He had little patience for those bickering over trivial matters.  On many occasions, the two of us would meet on Duke of Gloucester Street in town and bike to work together. I will always cherish the time spent with Charlie.

Our deepest condolences to you and your family, for the passing of your Dad. I knew Charlie for over 35 years and regarded him a "Prince of a Man"...He will be greatly missed; but not forgotten. May God bless Charlie and his family and loved ones... and we thank him for his service to our nation...

After his military career, Charlie became the Director of Transportation at Eastern State Hospital, Williamsburg, VA, and supervised all aspects of the hospital's fleet of vehicles. Many positive accomplishments to their transportation program occurred during his leadership. He also served as an investigator of patient complaints and was active in resolving issues and problems. He was proud to be a "Volunteer" having graduated for the University of Tennessee. He was fitness conscious and rode his bicycle to work most days from his home which was probably eight miles from the hospital. He was a gentleman and devoted family man and wonderful to work with. He will be missed by his many coworkers and friends at Eastern State Hospital...

The membership of the US Army's Transportation Corps Aviation Association (TCAA) send its condolences to the family of Major Cooke.  He was an outstanding soldier for only the best were chosen for duty in Berlin.  He was a warrior who served his country in peace and war.  We who served with him salute his dedication.  He is now God's co-pilot flying in the heavens above.
