
Charles W. Spalding, 83, of Williamsburg, VA passed peacefully on January 26, 2019 after a long illness. He was born in Appleton, WI, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Spalding. Chuck graduated from The University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta. He earned his Masters and Ph.D. from the Institute of Paper Chemistry (Lawrence College) in Appleton, WI in 1961.
Chuck worked for Hammermill Paper Company and the Mead Corporation. He retired in 1990 as VP of Research and Development at Mead.
He and his wife, Nancy, retired to Williamsburg in 1991. They enjoyed golf and boating in the area. Chuck built several small sailboats and pieces of furniture over the years. He and Nancy traveled to all seven continents, which gave Chuck the opportunity to expand his photographic talents. He printed his own photographs and many decorate their home.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Nancy, sweethearts since eighth grade and married for 61 years; his son John and John’s wife, Sibila, of Frisco, TX; and daughter Debbie of Little Elm, TX.
A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
