In 1976, Deborah received her BA degree in education from George Mason University. Deborah was an active volunteer with the Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed gardening and being in nature. Deborah loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and traveling the country with her husband of 50 years, especially to the mountains. Deborah also enjoyed reading, especially romance, history, and biblical/theology books. She would play mahjong with friends and have “Wine-Thirty” with the ladies of the neighborhood.
Deborah is survived by her husband, R. Wayne Johnson; son, David W. Johnson; daughter, Kathryn L. Torbert; grandchildren, Andrew Torbert (14), Patrick Torbert (12), Isaac Johnson (11), and Elizabeth Johnson (10); brother, Bruce A. Bartleson; sister, Betty J. Linthicum; and step-children, Lisa Sapper, Nancy Jenkins, Chris Johnson, and Debbie Essing.
A service will take place June 13, 2026 at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd, Williamsburg, Virginia at 12:00 PM.
