Don Patrick Leftwich Sr., age 87, died peacefully on April 19, 2018. Don was born in Williamson, West Virginia on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1931 to Juble Early Leftwich and Clella May (Davis) Leftwich. After high school he attended Marshal College in Huntington, West Virginia before enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Serving four years and having been honorably discharged, he relocated to Williamsburg VA and took a job at Colonial Williamsburg in the accounting department, as supervisor on the evening shift.
He opened the Golden Horseshoe Club, located at the Williamsburg Inn. This was a private club for "members only." Distinguished members included local and State officials as well as International representatives.
Upon graduating from the College of William and Mary, he remained a consummate supporter of many college events. Don was a proud member of William and Mary's alumni association and "The Order of The White Jacket."
Don entered the real estate business following college and received his Brokers license in 1963. He started his own real estate company, Don Leftwich Realty, which he worked until his death. He was a past president of the Williamsburg Association of Realtors, achieving Realtor Emeritus status from the National Association of Realtors in 2012 and was an active member until his passing.
He was an avid tennis player and always looked forward to Sunday morning matches with Dr. Baxter Bell, Dr. John Kaiser and the "Reverend" Bob Witcofski. Don's friendships with Judge Russell Carneal and Nick Saras led to the purchase of The Raleigh Motel on Richmond Rd., his first motel. His second hotel deal was made with good friends W.L. Person Sr. and Jr., building and operating the first Holiday Inn at Nags Head beach, North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda L. Leftwich; three sons, Don P. Leftwich Jr., Jeff H. Leftwich Sr. (Autumn), and Kevin B. Leftwich; daughter, Donnita Davis-Perry (Bill); six grandchildren, Mackenzie Morley (Robbie), Patrick Stickney, Alexandria Robinson, Jeffrey Leftwich Jr., Samantha Leftwich, Luke Leftwich and one great-grandchild Emmie Morley.
No public service will be held at Don's request. However, notes of sympathy can be sent to his wife Brenda at 109 Holman Rd., Williamsburg VA 23185. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Respite Care of Williamsburg, United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd., Williamsburg VA 23185 or James City County Rescue Squad.
