Was going through my pictures and found this one. My condolences. He was such an inspiration to us out in the dental field. Our squadron had achieved highest scores for an inspection and awarded USAFE Clinic of the Year and he cared enough about us to deliver the award in person. 

Please accept my condolences and regrets.  General Butz touched the lives of many Air Force dental officers, including mine. I remember his leadership, humor, and ability to make one feel at ease in his presence. He was not only a great leader and dental officer, he was a great man who helped make the world a better and more humane place. Thanks for taking care of him.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of General Butz.  Ironically, I learned of his passing while searching for him on the internet. My wife and I are spending an extended period of time in VA with our son and I was telling her of Dr. Butz and that we should see if we could connect in Williamsburg. I had the privilege of serving with him at the Air Force Surgeon General's Office as my last assignment before retirement from the Air Force (and his as well). I am deeply saddened at news of the passing of this great man.  I was honored to work beside him years ago in the school at Sheppard AFB. He was one of the finest officers I knew in my years in the USAF. He was a great leader, teacher, and friend to all of us honored to know him. I have thought of him many times over the past years and when I saw that he had become the head man of the USAF  Dental Service, I was not at all surprised but I felt I could have predicted it.  I am so very sorry for your loss, Mrs. Butz  and family.

Alexis and I were so saddened to hear of General Butz passing. We remember how kind Don was to one of the lowly sweaties at Langley when I was Chief of Operative. We will keep him in our prayers. John and Alexis Orto.

It was an honor to have known and served under General Butz as his leadership style was distinctive, distinguished by his warmth and genuine concern for all members of the USAF Dental Corps team. He took pride in their accomplishments and was quick to recognize those whose efforts improved the health of our military members and their families.  In an era when many other military leaders were egotistical, pompous and best avoided, he was ever the gentleman, gracious and generous with his time in support of the many dental clinics around the world.  A role model in so many ways, his leadership and accomplishments throughout his life has contributed greatly to the success of so many others.  His impact and mark on those he met will continue to make this world a better place.  My sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of a great man.
