IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

It is with great sadness that we write to let you know that Dr. Donald Lord died on Friday, December 18, 2020. As you may know, Don had been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and had recently moved into a memory care facility in Williamsburg, VA. On Sunday, December 13, 2020, Don tested positive for COVID-19. We are devastated that he is no longer with us but take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. Don was a wonderful person and a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was born on January 13, 1944 in Sheffield, England. He married the love of his life, Glenys, on August 21, 1965. They have two children, Sam and Matt, and six grandchildren, with whom he loved to build cardboard forts, read books, sculpt sand cars and sandcastles, and stump them with difficult riddles. Don received his PHD in Physics from St. John Cass College, London. He lectured and researched at York University and Salford University and spoke at conferences across Europe and America. In 2007, he and Glenys moved to America to be closer to their grandchildren. Last year they moved to Williamsburg, VA with Sam, her husband Mark and their daughter, Holly. Don had a passion for the arts that he loved to share. His beautiful watercolor paintings and drawings adorn the walls in homes of his family members and friends. His musical talents included being Bandmaster of the 4th Bramhall St. Michaels Scout and Guide band, playing the guitar, and ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ on the piano. Don was a fantastic drummer playing in several different bands and groups over the years. We will miss him dearly and appreciate all your love and prayers. We will be holding a small memorial service with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, we are asking anyone who is able, to please make a donation to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
