Donald Herbert McLain
October 1, 1926 – November 13, 2016

After celebrating 90 years of life, on November 13, 2016 Donald Herbert (Mac) McLain transitioned from this life to the next. A native of Ohio, he resided in Virginia after 23 years of service in the US Army, retiring as a W2. He was a veteran of WWII, Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. After retiring from the military, he worked for Colonial Williamsburg with 20 years of service as a mechanic. He also worked at Tidewater Nursery and started Mac's Small Engine Repair Shop. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 337, the American Legion Post 368 and former member of the James City County Ruritan Club.
Donald is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Zora A. McLain. They were married on July 14, 1949, in Olympia, Washington. Donald is predeceased by his parents, James and Lena Marie; brothers, Lloyd, Cecil and Howard; and sister, Bernice Bridges. He is survived and remembered by brother, Ralph and sisters, Faith Deal and Phillis McEowan; sons, Donald, Jeff, Pat, Chris; daughters, Linda Leffler and Sandy Smith; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great- grandchildren.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 16 from 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 17 at 11am. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to James City County Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 321, Toano, VA.
