Dorothy Ann McLaughlin (nee Dettmer) of Williamsburg, VA passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at the age of 85.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Rd., Williamsburg, where she was a member for 19 years, on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 1 PM.
An only child of Henry Nicholas and Adeline Dorothea Dettmer, Dorothy was born and raised in Rockville Centre, NY.
Mrs. McLaughlin was a graduate of The College of William and Mary, Class of 1949. She remained active in her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta.
Mrs. McLaughlin served in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY as a Social Worker placing adoptive children with their new families for over 25 years while she raised her own family before retiring to Fords Colony and Windsor Meade in Williamsburg, VA.
She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, attending church activities, reading, volunteering, exercising and traveling.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, George Bennett (Ben) McLaughlin, and is survived by her sons, Craig and Scott and his wife, Yvette, and four grandchildren, Alison, Shelby, Evan and Trevor.
