

Eleanor “Sally” Hardesty Davis, age 92, of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Wilford R. Davis (1989) and her second husband, William L. Ayres, Sr.; son, John R. Davis; and great-granddaughter, Hannah K. Davis.
Sally was a dedicated homemaker, as well as a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. As a talented seamstress, she made numerous quilts, some prize-winning—including over 100 quilts for Project Linus. She also had a love for crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Sally enjoyed nature, especially walking the many trails of Virginia and West Virginia State Parks. She has passed along not only her love of nature but also her hobbies to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Tom Davis (Judy) and Glen Davis (Terri); siblings, Gerald Hardesty (Peggy) and Nancy Walker; grandchildren, Jennifer Davis Anderson (Derek), Brien Davis (Rachael), Joshua Davis (Dana Helmer), Jeremy Davis (Alana), Karen Davis (Tommy Pfannkoch), Christopher Davis (Jill Ament); and she is dearly loved by 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also left to treasure her memory are Bill and Gayle Ayres, Patti and Lee Talbot, Debbie and Mike Cockerham and their children.
A private service will be held for the family.
