

She was born on May 21, 1940 and grew up in Bronxville, NY. Mrs. Lorensen moved to Williamsburg in 1972 when she married Norman O. Lorensen of New Jersy and Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, Dorothy and Thomas Thompson of Bronxville, NY and Waterford, CT.
Ellen was a graduate of the Mary Burnham School in Northampton, MA, the International Summer School in Oslo, Norway and the Bouve’ Boston School, Tufts University in Medford, MA with a BS in physical therapy. She worked at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville for 10 years before moving to Williamsburg.
She enjoyed golf, all of the arts, especially music and photography, bridge and travel. She had been a member of the Golden Horseshoe Golf Course, The Williamsburg Country club (president of the Women’s Golf Association for 2 years), the Kingsmill Women’s Golf association and the Kingsmill Women’s Social Club.
Following her husband’s death in 1992, she returned to work and did home care physical therapy for the Williamsburg Community Hospital and Sentara, Williamsburg for 13 years. She was a member and former deacon of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church on Richmond Road.
Her family and friends were much loved and treasured. The most special times growing up and into adulthood were the times spent at “the cottage” at Pleasure Beach in Waterford, CT. The memories were irreplaceable for all the family.
Mrs. Lorensen is survived by her sister and friend, Carol Krebs of Wheat Ridge, CO and her three nephews, Russell (Martha), Scott (Tanya) and Geoffrey (Susan). She is also survived by three great nieces, Emily, Maleah and Alexandra and three great nephews, Erik, Kelton and Nicholas, and cousins Elizbeth Kosterich and Stephen Johnson.
A visitation for Ellen will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188, with a celebration of life to follow at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will occur Monday, August 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 809 S Henry St, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice. Acknowledgements to be sent to Carol Krebs, 23 Rangeview Drive, Wheat Ridge, CO, 80215.
