What a privilege it has been to have Frances Rattan in my life.  She is my sister-in-law but always referred to me as her sister!  She was so gracious and always kind; a gourmet cook!; belonged to and served in officer positions in many organizations; was skilled in cross-stitch and needlepoint; and was always the most welcoming hostess.  She and I shared many laughs and conversations. We know that her husband, Volney Higdon Rattan, will be lonely without his companion but we take comfort in knowing that he has good people surrounding him and caring for him - for that we are grateful.  My husband, Travis Rattan, is his brother.  We both are sad for our family's loss of a great lady, France Rattan.

Volney, Rich and C.T.:  Thanks for notifying us by mail about Frances.  I always looked forward to hearing from her at Christmas time as we would exchange the latest on our family history (related on both the Stout and Newkirk sides).  She send me her collection of some genealogy books to be donated to the Historic Eleutherian College near Madison, Indiana.  They have been presented to the college in both Volney and Frances' names for a future library there.  My mom is still living at 100 and sends her condolence.  She has fond memories of Frances' parents who live near us in Rushville.  Our prayers are with you all.

Aunt Frances  - what a wonderful woman. It was always such a pleasure to visit with her -- she was always complementing my mother on how well behaved me and my sisters were and what a great help to her -- maybe because she had raised two sons and we were so different??  I will truely miss her and so admire her life and her service to our country. My Uncle and cousins will miss her deeply.  Rest gently and in peace.

Dear Mr. Rattan and family, I have no words to express how sad I felt when I learned of Mrs. Rattan's passing. She was such a lovely Lady and I always enjoyed my visits with the two of you. I know you will miss her so very much as she was not only your wife but best friend and soul mate. You had a wonderful life together and you must treasure all your wonderful days and happy memories. I would like to celebrate the life of my Aunt Frances. She was a true lady, gracious in all things when I was around - even though I did see her throw a dinner roll once! She was married for 70+ years, and has a wonderful husband and two sons. 

I will always be proud to have had her influence in my life.
