

Frank Meekins was born to Earl and Viola Meekins in Long Branch, New Jersey, the youngest of four children. He graduated from Long Branch High School in 1963, and went on to join the Army where he served in combat in Vietnam. During his tour of duty, he was awarded the following: Vietnam Service medal with one Bronze Star, a Combat Infantryman Badge and a National Service Medal. Upon completion of his military service, he started a new career with Mon Bell company, now known as Verizon. His career spanned 34 years before he retired in 2005.
Frank met the love of his life, Daisy in 1972. They were married November 19, 1975, and remained married for 49 years until his death.
In retirement he enjoyed fishing and playing golf with his wife and friends, but nothing brought him greater joy than spending time surrounded by family.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Viola; his sister Evelyn; his brothers, Earl and Jefferson; and his daughter Phia.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 49 years, Daisy; his children, Shonda (Joel), Frank Jr. (Ida), Felicia, Tiandra (Devine) and Keith (Nidia). Also, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 15, 1:00pm at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
