Gary R. Carlson
November 8, 1942 – October 24, 2020

We are saddened to inform you that Captain Gary R. Carlson, United States Marine Corps (retired), passed away on October 24, 2020. Gary was 77 years old and died peacefully, surrounded by his family. Gary is survived by his loving wife Louise of 33 years; three children, Walter, Stacey, and Candice Lee; two step-daughters, Nicole and Stephanie; 10 grandchildren and his brother Bruce
Gary was born in Chicago, but later moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where after high school graduation, he joined the Marine Corps. He served our nation proudly, with honor and distinction during his 20-year career. While in the Marine Corps, he served in various locations throughout the world, including combat operations in Vietnam. After retirement, he worked for the Federal Government, including 10 years in the Pentagon. His last assignment was the Head of the Ammunition Program for the Marine Corps.
Gary’s hobbies included working on and building Street Rods, and restoring antique jump spark cigar lighters.
He lived by what he learned in his Marine Corps career: Honor, Courage, and Commitment. He will be remembered for his unwavering code of integrity, honesty, selflessness, and being that person you could depend on for anything.
A private service for the family will be held. Burial services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery with full Military Honors at a later date.
