Geneva Lorene Sanders

She was born in Richlands, VA on September 18, 1942.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby Brean Sanders, Sr, of 61 years; her parents, Frank Boyd and Hazel Lee (Horne) Boyd; two brothers, Dewey Junior Boyd and Johnny Ray Boyd, and one sister, Ethel Louise Boyd; and son-in-law, Jerry Andrew Smith.

Geneva was a loyal and dedicated employee of Eastern State Hospital for over 49 years. She spent the majority of her career as the secretary to the Director of the Hospital. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a devout Christian and member of the Calvery Baptist Church. She had a strong, unwavering faith in God and was a beautiful example of his love. She never met a stranger and touched many with her infectious smile and loving heart. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Ann Smith and Deborah Kay Schultz (Eric) and one son, Bobby Brean Sanders, Jr; five grandchildren, Shawn Avery Smith, Derek Andrew Smith (Kira), Courtney Nicole Ralph (Ricardo), Amber LeAnn Sanders and Caleb Conner Schultz; seven great-grandchildren, Mitchell O’Dell Adams, Raevin O’Nairah Adams, Kara Jayde Smith, Braylin Paige Smith, Jayden Amari Sanders, Makai Xavier Ralph, and Nova Sanai Ralph, and three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Josephine Altizer (Fred), Shirley Toutant (Richard), and Ruby Juanita Bragunier (Jack) and two brothers, Cecil Frank Boyd (Sandy) and Willard Roger Boyd (Brenda), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM on March 21, 2026, at Calvery Baptist Church, 1042 Penniman Road, Williamsburg, VA. Pastor John Sumpter will be officiating.
