Born on July 22, 1931, BB was the third child of Mr. Thomas Hockaday and Mrs. Viola Hockaday. He was raised in Toano and Lanexa, VA and at the age of 17, he joined the Army and served in Germany.
After returning to the USA, BB married the love of his life, Doris Lucille Melton, and together they had three children, Terri Hockaday, Mark "Bubba" Hockaday (Joyce), and Michael Hockaday (Tammy). He was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
BB began his career as the produce manager at the A&P grocery store in the late 1950s, before moving on to work at Camp Perry, where he retired after 35 years of service in 1985. After retirement, he and Doris moved to Tyro, VA where they both loved living in the mountains and attending. Cornerstone Baptist Church.
BB was known for his love of helping people and his great sense of humor. He was a fixture in the community and could often be found sitting on a bench at the local country store, where he never met a stranger and always had a joke to tell. He also had a love for bluegrass music and could often be found playing his mandolin with bands around the mountains.
BB was also a member of the Williamsburg # 6 Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but as he often said, he was ready to meet the Lord and be reunited with his loving wife Doris.
The family will have a private burial at a later date.
